LELO Insignia Lyla Review
Last week I reviewed the LELO Insignia Tiani and had both good and bad things to say about it. Luckily, I have also had the opportunity to review the LELO Insignia Lyla from Va Va Voom, which gives me another chance to experience the new LELO SenseMotion technology.

One of the things I really liked about the LELO Insignia Tiani is the SenseMotion technology, and while I did have some issues with the Tiani itself, I had very high hopes for the LELO Lyla. With its different shape and purpose, I was hoping it would work out better for me and I am pleased to say that it does.
The LELO Lyla is a unique and luxurious take on a traditional egg vibrator. However, it is very special in several ways. First of all, it is specially designed for couples and has a wireless remote control that allows your partner to control the Lyla from a distance of up to 39 feet. Second, is the SenseMotion technology that ties the vibrating egg to the remote in a completely new way. The remote control actually vibrates in tune with the Lyla so your partner feels exactly what is happening to you as it happens. SenseMotion also gives your partner a unique way of controlling the vibrations and thus your experience with the Lyla.
The LELO Lyls has eight modes in total, and the first two of these are SenseMotion modes. In both modes, your partner simply moves the remote around to change the vibrations, no pushing of buttons. In SenseMotion Mode 1, your partner can con control the vibrations by tilting the remote. When flat, the vibrations will be at their weakest and will strengthen the closer the remote gets to a 90 degree angle, at which they will be strongest. In SenseMotion Mode 2, your partner controls the vibrations by rotating the remote in a circular motion or shaking it. The faster the remote moves, the more intense the vibrations.
This technology is unlike anything we’ve seen before with a vibrator and I love the novelty and geekyness of it. I also love it because it is just plain fun. Imagine, having the Lyla inside of you and watching your partner play with the remote. You can see what’s about to happen right before it does. This can be very intense for me.
Please keep in mind, the LELO Lyla is totally appropriate for solo play and I enjoy it this way as well. So don’t be offended or bothered by my references to “your partner”. You can just as easily use the remote yourself. In fact, considering the remote vibrates you can use it on yourself as separate vibrator (or on your partner or vice versa) and have two vibrators rocking your world at the same time. While this may not be the intended purpose, I say if it vibrates, stick it on my clit!
If you don’t always want to use the SenseMotion Modes, (and who doesn’t like some variety with their sex toys?) the LELO Lyla has a steady vibration and five preset patterns.
Modes:
1. SenseMotion 1
2. SenseMotion 2
3. Steady vibration
4. Pulse
5. Faster pulse
6. Ramp up
7. Roller coaster
8. Dance Mix
The remote control for the LELO Lyla has clearly labeled buttons that are easy to use. The control panel consist of three buttons, +, -, and (). The + button turns on the remote and the Lyla and controls the increase in vibrations, while the – button turns them off and decreases the vibrations. The () button cycles between modes. One great thing about the steady vibrations and preset patterns is that you can increase and decrease the strength of the vibrations in each mode.
Though Lyla is rechargeable, the remote is not but rather runs on two AA batteries. LELO is kind enough to include these batteries in the packaging, which wins major points with me. Not only that, but they give you Energizer batteries, not an off-brand. I really would prefer the remote be rechargeable as well and I don’t understand why it isn’t. Perhaps there is a power issue as it is a wireless remote, or something else I am overlooking. However, The LELO Lyla itself is easy to charge. You simply unscrew the plastic base from the silicone egg and plug the charging cord directly into the egg. A two hour charge gives approximately one hour worth of play time.
There is some variability in how you use the LELO Lyla. You can use it as an external clit vibrator or insert it and wear it inside you, being sure to leave the retrieval cord accessible. Another great thing about the LELO Lyla is the retrieval cord. Many eggs with cordless remotes have a cord that is not for retrieval but for communication with the remote, so you have to be very careful with them and specifically not use them for retrieval. This retrieval cord is 3.5″ long and I can yank on it to my heart’s content. I love a hardy toy that I don’t have to walk on eggshells around. The retrieval cord also makes the LELO Lyla truly perfect to wear because it is so easy to remove.
The LELO Lyla is 3.25″ long without the retrieval cord and 1.3″ in diameter, so it’s larger than the average egg vibrator. One thing I was not expecting about the LELO Lyla was the super bright pink color that LELO calls Cerise. It practically glows in the dark. It is just so bright and cheerful, which I really appreciate. Another thing is its slightly unusual shape. There is a bulge down one side of the Lyla that gives it more of a teardrop shape than a typical egg shape.
The LELO Lyla is made of plastic and silicone. The gold bits are plastic and the Cerise parts of are made of silky smooth silicone. This silicone is latex and phthalate-free, non-porous, hypoallergenic, and body-safe. One of the things I love about LELO sex toys is that the silicone does not get linty at all. Most silicone is a dust magnet and LELO silicone is not. Silicone is also easy to care for and clean. LELO recommends using just warm water and antibacterial soap when cleaning Lyla. If you insert the LELO Lyla or it gets particularly messy, you may need to use your finger nail or a cotton swab to clean out the area that unscrews, which can be a bit of a pain.
As it is made of silicone, LELO recommends using only water-based lubricant with the LELO Lyla. I find a very small amount is all that is needed because the silicone of the Lyla is so soft and smooth it has no drag on my skin at all, especially when I’m wet. I suggest starting out with a small amount of lube and adding as you go if need be. Otherwise, your Lyla might get far too slippery.
What’s very interesting is that my LELO Lyla is stronger and deeper in vibration than my Tiani. This was quite unexpected. I figured they would be the same, but they are not. This makes it much easier for me to get off with the LELO Lyla. However, the Lyla is not powerhouse and the vibrations are still buzzier than some of my larger vibrators, but I am impressed with the Lyla compared to the Tiani. The LELO Lyla is also shockingly quiet. In fact, the remote is louder than the Lyla itself.
As per usual with LELO, the packaging for the Lyla is excellent. It starts off with a shiny lightweight hard paper box with low impact images of the Lyla on it. Inside this box is the typical black LELO hard box, which is sturdy and discreet. Inside the black box is the LELO Lyla, its remote, and a handful of accessories. Included with the Lyla is the Insignia brooch, a pin in the shape of the Insignia logo. There is the instruction manual, the one year manufacturer’s warranty, the 10 year quality guarantee, and a sample of LELO personal lubricant. Also included are the charger, two AA Energizer batteries, a special key to open the remote, and a satin storage bag. The instructions tell you not to use a coin to open the remote, which I think would scratch up the back, so be sure not to lose the special key or you may have trouble replacing the batteries. Speaking of losing things, also be sure you keep track of the remote because without it you cannot use the LELO Lyla.
LELO Insignia Lyla Pros:
• Wireless remote
• SenseMotion technology
• Quiet
• Silicone
• Waterproof
• Retrieval cord
• Storage bag
• Comes with batteries
LELO Insignia Lyla Cons:
• Vibrations could be stronger
• Vibrations could be deeper
• Remote runs on batteries
As I have mentioned, I really love the SenseMotion Technology. It is new, it is different, and it is fun. There is nothing like it on the market and I really do love unusual and atypical sex toys. The color is vibrant and pretty and both the LELO Lyla and its remote feel luxurious. It is fun to use with a partner, as well as playing with it on your own. I like the unique shape of the Lyla and that I can use the back of the remote as a lipstick mirror. Well, I don’t really, but I could in a pinch. Overall, I find the Lyla to be an impressive piece of technology and I enjoy using it.
Head on over to Va Va Voom to pick up your own LELO Insignia Lyla!

I am very surprised to see this review as I was very disappointed when my husband bought me a gift which just so happened to be the Lelo Lyla…it did not work internally at all and did not even have a distance range of 1/2 meter, never mind 39 feet (12 meters)…I had 2 in two days and both were not what they promised.
I am sorry you had such a negative experience with your LELO Lya. It would seem possible you got a dud, though two duds seems less likely. I am not really sure what to say. Mine does work well internally, though I agree it doesn’t quite have the full range LELO claims when I use it that way. I know some reviewers have had some trouble and others have had none. It seems there may be some inconsistencies with this new technology. It was sweet of your husband, nonetheless.
This is one toy on every wishlist for me at the moment, I have heard many bad reviews and this is great to see it worked for you. Like you I adore any product that is techie and different so this is a must have for me.
Great review love your detailing as usual hun.

This really is fun, especially for the tech geek. It isn’t perfect but it does do the job for me and it is just so fun to play with the remote. I can’t help loving the geekery of it. Thanks muchly!
