Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator Review

Over the past few weeks I have reviewed the Jopen KEY Charms Plush Mini Vibrator and the Jopen KEY Vela Massager. I mentioned that a third review was in the works, thanks to Jopen being kind enough to send me three vibrators from their new KEY line. This week, we’ll be taking a look at the Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator.

Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator

As I mentioned above, the Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator is part of the new Jopen KEY line, and like the other sex toys in this line, it is made of ABS and silicone. In the case of the Io (which reminds me of the Io Valley on Maui), the vibrator itself is made of ABS, while the two changeable sleeves are made of silicone. The silicone of the sleeves is sleek and smooth and does not collect lint like many of my silicone sex toys, which I greatly appreciate. While it is smooth and silky, it is still important to use lubricant for increased slipperyness. When using the silicone sleeves, you want to stick with a water-based lubricant as silicone-based lubes can react negatively with the silicone sleeves. Technically, you can use a silicone-based lubricant if you are using the Io on its own without either of the sleeves, but I wouldn’t risk it. If you don’t get every speck of silicone-based lube off the vibrator, you could damage the inside of the silicone sleeve when it comes into contact with the lubricant.

The video below provides a snapshot of the Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator.

The Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator runs on one AA battery, which is not included. To insert this battery, twist the base of the Io counterclockwise and it pops right off. Insert the battery positive end down. When you open the battery compartment of the Io, you will see an o-ring which ensures the vibrator is waterproof. Just be sure you firmly reattach the battery compartment cover before exposing the Io to water. As it is waterproof, the Io Mini Vibrator is easy to clean. You can use any sex toy cleaner, or just wash it with warm water and antibacterial soap, like I do. Remove and wash the sleeves separately to make sure they are totally clean.

Certainly something I would classify as an external vibrator, the Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator is 4.25″ ling with a diameter of 1″. Yes, you can insert it vaginally, which may be nice for some users, especially beginners. However, do not insert the Io anally. It has no flared based and its shape is perfect for disappearing up into the anal canal and being very difficult to retrieve. Just don’t do it.

The Io Vibrator is very easy to use, also a benefit for people new to sex toys. At the base of the Io is a stainless alloy button, which gives the vibrator a touch of class in looks. Press this button once to turn the Io on. Press it again to cycle through the five different modes. To turn the Io off, press and hold the button for approximately two seconds. Easy, peasy. Unlike both the KEY Charms Plush and the KEY Vela, which have the same stainless alloy button, this particular button is a bit too easy to press. The buttons on the other vibrators require enough pressure that I don’t turn them on or change modes accidentally. The button on the Io is a hair trigger, so this does happen occasionally. It certainly isn’t the end of the world and may just be my specific Io. It is, however, an excellent reason not to store the Io with the battery inside. It will very likely get turned on accidentally in storage and drain the battery, as well as making odd noises.

Like the Charms Plush, the Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator has five modes of vibration. There is a helpful visual of these patterns in the instruction manual. They are as follows:
1. High- steady vibration
2. High 2- very fast pulse
3. Tease- ramp up
4. Pulse- slow pulse
5. Throb- two long pulses three short

The vibrations of the Io are surprisingly strong for a battery-operated clit vibrator. This is likely due to the AA battery, rather than an N or even a AAA. While not silent, they are also quiet enough to use underneath some heavy blankets without making too much of a racket in the room. However, and this is a big however, the vibrations are buzzy. They are not so buzzy they’re painful and I can orgasm with them, but they are not the deep and rumbly vibrations I really prefer. This makes using the KEY Io Mini Vibrator much less pleasurable than I hoped. While I very much appreciate the Io’s changeable sleeves, it is a challenge for me to get past the vibrations. On a positive note, I really like the Io’s textured sleeve. I would prefer to have the raised nubs on the tip of the sleeve, rather than just a strip around it, but I do like texture against my clit. I also appreciate the slickness of the Io’s silicone.

The packaging of the Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator is the same as the KEY Charms Plush and the KEY Vela. The external box corresponds with the color of the vibrator, in this case purple. It slides off to reveal the black box underneath. Both boxes have basic information on them and neither one is particularly discreet. The external box has an image of the Io and the internal box calls it a massager, so it’s pretty obvious it’s a vibrator. The black box has a window that opens outward to provide access to the Io and its two sleeves which sit securely in black foam. Underneath the foam is the instruction manual, warranty information, and black satin storage back. The instruction manual is simple and easy to understand, perfectly appropriate for someone new to sex toys. For some weird reason, the paper has a very strong, unpleasant odor. Odd, as the silicone sleeves have only a minimal scent when I hold them right up to my nose.

Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator Pros:
• Changeable sleeves
• Different patterns
• Easy to use
• Silicone
• Waterproof
• Good price point
• Storage bag

Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator Cons:
• Buzzy vibrations
• Only one level of intensity
• Button a little too easy to push

The Jopen KEY Io Mini Vibrator certainly has some strong points. It provides different textures, is easy to use, is waterproof, and is reasonably priced. I really appreciate a sex toy that gives me multiple options, so the two sleeves, along with the sleekness of the ABS is a definite benefit to the Io. One sleeve is a simple, smooth silicone while the other has some raised bumps for texture. The thing is, with the ABS being totally smooth, the smooth silicone sleeve seems unnecessary to me. I would have preferred another textured sleeve as a different option. Granted, there is a different sensation between the silicone and ABS, but against my clit it’s not hugely noticeable.

As with the KEY Charms Plush, the real issue for me with the Io is the vibrations. While they seem to be a bit less buzzy than the Charms Plush, they are definitely on that end of the spectrum which makes them hard to appreciate. I also really feel this vibrator, as with the the others I’ve tried in the KEY line, needs more than one level of intensity. It’s just too much for me to start off at this level of power. I do want it once I’ve warmed up, but not until I’ve had a chance to do that. It’s too strong for me to use on my nipples, so that’s a bust, and I need to use another vibrator or my fingers to get to the place where my clit can handle the power of the Io. I understand that one level of intensity makes the vibrator simple and easy to use, which is attractive to beginning users, but in my mind it is a design flaw.

Jopen KEY Vela Massager Review

Just two weeks ago I reviewed the Jopen KEY Charms Plush Mini Vibrator. In that review, I mentioned I would be reviewing two other vibrators in the KEY line. This week it’s the Jopen KEY Vela Massager, and it is quite a bit different than the Charms Plush.

Jopen KEY Vela Massager

The Jopen KEY Vela Massager is a full-sized vibrator that can be used both internally and externally. It is 8.25″ long, with approximately 4.75″ being insertable, and 1.6″ in diameter. The shaft of the Vela is made of the same soft and smooth silicone of the Charms Plush, except in this case, my Vela is a gorgeous two-tone blue. The silicone is a thin layer over a hard interior so there is absolutely no give to the Vela at all. I really feel all 1.75″ of girth inside me, unlike softer vibrators. It has a sort of wavy texture that I feel easily with my hand but not so much when the vibrator is inside me. The base is made of ABS using a two color injection process that gives it a shiny, glass-like appearance. It is really quite pretty and I love the color.

As I mentioned, the silicone of the KEY Vela Massager is particularly smooth and therefore does not attract lint, which is great. It is latex and phthalate-free, hypoallergenic, and body-safe. Though it does not have as much drag as many of my silicone sex toys, it is still important to use a water-based lubricant with it for penetration. This will allow the vibrator to slide in comfortably and provide a much more enjoyable experience. Steer clear of silicone-based lubes though, as they can break down the silicone of the Vela and permanently damage your vibrator.

The KEY Vela Massager has an o-ring inside the battery compartment, making it waterproof. This makes cleaning easy. I usually wash mine with warm water and antibacterial soap, but you can also use a sex toy cleaner, or wipe the silicone portion down with a 10% bleach solution. This will disinfect the silicone and allow you to use the vibrator amongst non-fluid bonded partners. Do not use the Vela Massager anally as does not the necessary flaring at the base to make this safe.

This video provides a bit of information about the KEY Vela Massager.

The battery compartment is accessed by twisting the base of the KEY Vela Massager to the left. It does not unscrew like most vibrators. To close the compartment, you line up the two pieces correctly and twist once to close. Inside the battery compartment is a great little battery cartridge that easily pulls out. This cartridge holds the required (but not included) four AAA batteries. The cartridge is clearly marked to show you how the batteries fit inside. This makes storing your batteries super simple. You can just keep them in the cartridge and quickly pop it in and out. You always want to remove the batteries from the Vela after use to lengthen their life and that of the vibrator. Never store it with batteries inside. The cartridge is great because you don’t have to fumble around with the batteries when you are ready to play, you just slide it into place. While I really like the battery tray, I find the battery compartment difficult to close. Getting the base of the vibrator in perfect alignment with the shaft is quite a challenge, at least for me.

The control panel of the KEY Vela Massager consists of one stainless alloy push button on the bottom of the battery compartment. This button is easy to press and has good feedback, but requires enough pressure that you must intentionally press the button to change modes. It’s difficult to do accidentally. To turn the Vela on and to cycle through the different modes, press the button. Press and hold the button for three seconds to turn the Vela off. The KEY Vela Massager has seven modes. They are (as named by Jopen) as follows:
1. High- steady vibration
2. High 2- very fast pulse
3. Wave- roller coaster
4. Pulse- slow pulse
5. Throb- two long pulses three short
6. Flutter- faster pulses
7. Tease- ramp up

In use, the KEY Vela Massager is very different from the KEY Charms Plush. The vibrations are much deeper and rumblier, so I definitely prefer them. They are also quite strong. With that added strength does come a significant amount more noise. However, with the Vela inside me, it cannot be heard through the bedroom door. Although the KEY Vela Vibrator has seven modes of vibration, it has only one power setting, and this setting is high. This is an issue for me. I like to start on lower levels of strength and work up to more power. This strong of a vibration right off the bat is too much for my nipples’ and clit’s comfort. Therefore, I really need to use my fingers or another vibrator to warm up to the point where I want that strong of a vibration. To me, this is a design flaw. To give Jopen some positive points for design, the bottom of the base of the Vela has an angled shape that makes holding it in my hand with my thumb on the button very comfortable when thrusting.

The packaging of the KEY Vela Massager is more or less the same as the KEY Charms Plush Mini Vibrator. The exterior of the box is blue and black, like the color of my Vela, and has images of the vibrator and some basic information on it. The top half of the box slides off, leaving the black box underneath. Neither box is very discreet considering the images and words “Surrender yourself to the luxurious KEY Vela vibrating massager”. They are sturdy though, and can be used for storage if you have the extra space. The black box has a door that opens to the side, providing access to the vibrator in a black foam cutout. There is a black ribbon attached to the top of this foam, allowing you to easily pull it forward to find the Vela instruction manual, warranty information, and storage bag. The black satin storage bag is the same lower quality satin of the KEY Charms Plush’s bag, but it does the job so I’m happy with it. It certainly gives you another storage option.

KEY Vela Massager Pros:
• Nice Girth
• Angled base makes for easy use
• Reasonable price point
• Very attractive
• Smooth silicone
• Waterproof
• Easy to use
• Not a lint magnet
• Storage bag
• Battery cartridge

KEY Vela Massager Cons:
• Only one level of strength
• Slight scent to silicone
• Somewhat challenging to close battery compartment

The KEY Vela Massager has some excellent qualities. I like the girth, and the angled shape of the base makes pressing the button during use very easy and comfortable. It is waterproof and easy to use, and does not attract dust and lint. I really like the way it looks and think the price point make it a good option for many people. I also think many people will like the depth and strength of the vibrations. I just think some others will have the same issue I do with the one power level and think it’s too much without sufficient warm up. For this reason, I really have to downgrade the KEY Vela. Another troublesome issue is the slight smell to the silicone. It’s not terrible and I do have to hold it close to my face to smell it but I find it disconcerting when silicone products smell. It makes me think they are not 100% silicone. The final thing that is a bit annoying about the Vela is the closing of the battery compartment. Perhaps it’s just me but I find getting the two pieces of the base to line up perfectly in order to close the compartment a bit challenging. It’s not a big deal and I don’t deduct any beans for this little issue.

Overall, I like the Jopen KEY Vela Vibrator but I cannot love it. Even though I like the patterns, the lack of varied power levels kills it for me. Considering I’m already feeling grumpy about this, the smell does not help. However, if you have a clit of steel and really like power right out of the gate, the Vela does have a number of things going for it. I’d probably give the KEY Vela 3.5 beans if it had a lower power setting, but since it doesn’t, I have to take off one full bean because I see this as major design flaw.

SPOTLIGHT on VerSpanken Male Masturbator

Recently, I was cruising my local sex toy shop when I ran across a unique looking male masturbator that I hadn’t seen before. It piqued my curiosity so I wanted to find out more about it and share it with my readers. It’s called the VerSpanken and comes in three options, the Smooth (blue), the Bumpy (green), and the Wavy (purple). The VerSpanken Male Masturbator was released by Big Teaze Toys in December 2012, so it’s a very new product.

VerSpanken Male Masturbator

The video below introduces you to the VerSpanken and provides some instructions and techniques. I love how Joe comes out of a store labeled “XXX”. I’m not sure why they have to use a cartoon banana when they just go on to use Joe’s cartoon penis, but it’s still a cute video.

The VerSpanken is made of plastic and TPR and is both latex and phthalate-free. It has an open-ended external casing with a snap closure and comes with a pre-installed foam insert called a FoamWeiner. Each color FoamWeiners has a different textures. These FoamWeiners can be snapped out and replaced with a different texture.

VerSpanken Male Masturbator

Unlike other male masturbators, you can control the pressure, texture, and temperature of the VerSpanken. There is an adjustable feature that permits you to change the pressure during play, and WaterWeiners, (which are sold separately) are also available for the VerSpanken. These WaterWeiners are liquid-filled inserts that can be warmed up or chilled to allow for temperature play. You can even mix and match FoamWeiners and WaterWeiners. Insert the Smooth FoamWeiner on one side and the Wavy on the other for a new sensation.

Here we have Joe happening by the same XXX shop with a load of cash because he buys all three sets of WaterWeiners. This video shows you how to replace your FoamWeiners with WaterWeniers. It also shows that you can place them in the microwave and freezer.

Big Teaze Toys has come up with a number of ways in which to use the VerSpanken Male Masturbator and I was so enamored of their sketch I just had to include it for your viewing pleasure.

Bliss Massager Review

Not too long ago, a local California sex toy company called NS Novelties came out with a a few new vibrators. The Bliss Massager looked colorful and interesting, two qualities I adore in my sex toys. I really wanted to check it out and thanks to PinkCherry Sex Toys I had the opportunity to test drive the Bliss.

Bliss Massager

The Bliss Massager is a small vibrator that I would classify as a clit stimulator, meaning it is not designed to be inserted into the vagina, or anus for that matter. It measures 4.5″ in length and 2″ in diameter. It is lightweight and fits perfectly in my hand. It comes in two colors, black and burgundy, and white and pink. Both colors are attractive but I prefer my white and pink Bliss Massager. Kinda reminds me of Easter candy.

Made of ABS and silicone, the Bliss Massager is body safe and easy to clean. Most of the vibrator is made of white plastic but the tip of the Bliss is a pink, ribbed silicone and there is a pink silicone stripe that runs around its body. NS Novelties recommends using antibacterial soap and water for cleaning, but you can also use a sex toy cleaner. If you are careful you can use a 10% bleach solution on the silicone tip of the Bliss but I wouldn’t want to get bleach on the plastic body. If you want to use a bleach solution, I would suggest dabbing it on with a soft towel. There is a good amount of drag with the silicone tip, so I do recommend using lube during play. As the tip is really what touches your body, you’ll want to use a water-based lubricant. Silicone-based lubes can have a negative reaction with the silicone tip leaving it tacky. Fortunately, there isn’t too much of this silicone on the Bliss as the silicone that is on there does attract a lot of lint.

The Bliss Massager has two of my favorite features in a sex toy. It is waterproof and rechargeable. On the back of the vibrator, in the pink silicone, is the charging port. You can really tell the Bliss is waterproof by how firmly you have to push the charging pin into the port to secure it. When you pull it out, the silicone seals the hole up which is what allows it to be waterproof. As you can see from the images (or rather not see), the port is practically invisible when not in use. During charging, the control panel flashes red. The flashing stops when the Bliss is fully charged…or so it seems. There is no user manual included with the Bliss Massager so this is just what I’ve experienced. I charged my Bliss for two hours or so which seemed to fully charge it, though i don’t know if it arrived with much of a charge. I have yet to run the battery down so I really don’t know how long it will last before another charge is needed.

As I mentioned before, the Bliss Massager fits comfortably in my hand which makes it very easy to use. The control panel consists of a black silicone strip with three buttons, +, o, and -. The + button turns the Bliss on and increases the intensity of the vibrations. It also allows you to cycle up through the different patterns once you’ve changed modes. You press the o button when you want to switch from steady vibrations to patterns and back to steady vibrations again. The – button decreases the intensity of the vibrations, cycles down through the pattern modes, and turns the vibrator off. All three buttons are easy to press and have good feedback. You have to press on them firmly so you won’t change modes or intensities accidentally, just by brushing your finger across one of them.

The Bliss Massager has four levels of steady vibration and six patterns, which accounts for the 10 modes stated on the box. The different modes are as follows:
1. Steady vibration
2. Medium pulse
3. Fast pulse
4. Double pulse
5. Escalation
6. Dance Mix
7. Double pulse with escalation

Bliss Massager

Bliss Massager

Bliss Massager

Bliss Massager

Bliss Massager

The vibrations are quite strong but they are slightly buzzy; not horribly, but they are certainly not the deep, rumbly vibrations I prefer. I can feel the vibrations in my hand while using the Bliss Massager, which isn’t surprising considering its size. I don’t need to use it for very long before having an orgasm but I suspect those that do may fall prey to buzzy hand syndrome. The Bliss is on the quiet side but it has a weird high-pitched whine in certain modes and when switching between patterns that is rather annoying and louder than the vibrations themselves. I am not sure if it’s just my Bliss or if they all do this.

A totally unnecessary but fun feature of the Bliss is the LED light show it puts on during use. The LED strip down the center of the vibrator lights up when the vibe is on. It increases and decreases each time you increase/decrease the intensity. It also changes colors and flashes in time to each pattern. The only downside of this light show is that you cannot actually see it during use. Your partner might enjoy it though.

In use, the Bliss Massager is a decent vibrator, but not great. I don’t love the vibrations but I don’t hate them either. They aren’t my ideal kind of vibrations, deep and rumbly, but I still have no problem getting off with this vibrator. I enjoy using the Bliss for its shape, comfort, and ease of use but I wish it had better vibrations. They are not so buzzy my clit hurts or tingles but they’re a step in that general direction. Although the tip is ribbed, for what I assume is additional stimulation, I do not feel the ribbing against my clit or labia. The Bliss does a good job on my nipples, though it is draggy without lube, so at least it’s multifunction, which I like. One thing I love is that I can control the intensity of the vibration in each mode. I just increase to the level I want and switch to the pattern mode. A lot of vibrators don’t allow this and I think it’s a big plus.

The packaging of the Bliss Massager is very secure but indiscreet. The outer box has images of the vibrator on the front and back with a list of attributes. There is another box that slides out of this external box. This box has a lid with a plastic window that shows the Bliss. The lid lifts off to reveal the Bliss sitting in a foam cutout. There is a paper flap that hides the charger in its own foam cutout next to the Bliss. The only instructions are on the side of both boxes that tell you how to wash the Bliss and suggest using lubricant, as well as a little blurb on the back of outer box which shows you how to use the control panel. While these directions are sufficient for me, I would like a little booklet to be included. Not only would it be helpful for novice users, but I have no idea how long to charge the vibrator or how long the charge lasts because this information is nowhere to be found. I would applaud NS Novelties for not using the extra paper and going more green by printing everything on the boxes if there weren’t two of them.

Bliss Massager Pros:
• Comfortable in hand
• Can control strength of vibration in every mode
• Strong vibrations
• Easy to use control panel
• Lightweight
• Rechargeable
• Waterproof

Bliss Massager Cons:
• Slightly buzzy vibrations
• Weird high-pitched whine

There are some great things about the Bliss Massager that I expected to like and do. I always love a waterproof and rechargeable vibrator. I love that I can control the intensity of the vibrations in every mode, though it is slightly awkward to have to set the strength first then go into pattern modes. The comfort of the shape in my hand and the ease of use of the control panel make it a pleasure to use the Bliss. What dampens that pleasure is the buzzyishness of the vibrations and the annoying high-pitched whine of the motor. Even though the size might make the Bliss a good travel vibrator, the lack of a travel lock would make me hesitant to toss it into my luggage. Who wants to deal with a vibrating bag in the middle of a crowded airport or jump in the bath with your vibrator at the end of a long journey only to discover it has accidentally been drained of all its power? SPOTLIGHT on Mood Breezy Vibrator

I’m not necessarily a huge fan of hearts in general, but there’s a new vibrator at PinkCherry that is shaped like a heart and is still cute. It’s called the Mood Breezy Vibrator and it’s made by Doc Johnson.

Doc Johnson Mood Breezy Vibrator

The Mood Breezy Vibrator is a funky little clit stimulator made of ABS with a PU coating. The ABS is great because it’s non-porous as well as latex and phthalate-free, and the PU makes the vibrator extra soft and silky. I do tend to prefer rechargeable vibrators, one of the benefits of the Mood Breezy Vibrator. What makes this aspect extra cool is that it charges via USB. The base of the heart comes off and the top half plugs right into your computer like a jump drive. I don’t know how well it actually works, but the geek in me loves that it charges this way.

I am curious as to how powerful the Mood Breezy Vibrator’s motor actually considering it does charge via USB. I only have one USB vibrator, the Mystic Mini Massager, and it has a decent amount of power. The Mood Breezy Vibrator has seven different vibration modes and comes in three colors, purple, pink, and black. It looks as though it will fit comfortably in the hand and be easy to hold on to during use. The one obvious downside of the Mood Breezy Vibrator is that it is not waterproof, which can create a cleaning challenge in a very small vibrator. Nonetheless, this could be a nice little clit stimulator to have floating around the toy box. Head on over to PinkCherry and check out the Mood Breezy Vibrator from Doc Johnson.
