Now, girls, you know I love non-traditional materials for my sex toys. So let’s talk about the Doc Johnson Alumination Vibrator.

The Doc Johnson Alumination Vibrator is somewhat unique as it’s made almost entirely out of aluminum. I’ll discuss the “almost entirely” a bit later in my review.
I love aluminum. It’s very safe for the body, non-porous and phthalate free. It resists the corrosion most other metals are subject to and is very lightweight. You can even wash the Doc Johnson Alumination Vibrator in the top rack of your dishwasher with your travel coffee mugs. I prefer to use one of my favorite cleaners, but then I don’t drink coffee! Though it’s lightweight, the Doc Johnson Alumination still has a solid and weighty feel to it, which is important to me. I want to know it’s there!
I really love the cool, smooth feeling of the aluminum material. It starts out cold against my body, and warms up of me. Aluminum retains heat and cold so you can heat this vibrator up in hot water or chill it down in ice water. I’ve said it before; I’ll say it again. I do adore sensation play!
The big downside to the Doc Johnson Alumination is the very tip of this vibrator. Rather than aluminum, it’s made from ABS plastic. The plastic is durable but it isn’t totally non-porous so it’s not as safe as aluminum. If you’re going to share the Doc Johnson Alumination, be sure to use condoms, as you would when sharing any sex toy. It is put together well, but my body can feel the difference between the aluminum shaft and the plastic tip. This is a bit of a let down for me.
Aluminum itself is safe for all types of lubricant. Considering the plastic tip on the Doc Johnson Alumination, I’d stick with water-based lube. Silicone-based may cause you some problems with the plastic down the line.
At 6” long and .75” in diameter, the Doc Johnson Alumination is slim and trim. While I like the length, it’s definitely on the thin side for me for penetration. I don’t get the oh so full feeling with the Alumination that I get with the Vibratex Rabbit Pearl Vibrator. However, it is waterproof and submersible in the tub, which is always a bonus as far as I’m concerned.
I also like the controls on the Doc Johnson Alumination Vibrator. Rather than the traditional twisty bottom, it has a push button and 3 speeds. 1 click for low, 2 clicks for medium, and 3 clicks for high. The push button really does make this a one-handed vibrator, which is great when my other hand is busy elsewhere. It also means I don’t fumble around with wet, slippery hands for 5 minutes trying to turn it off!
With 2 AAA batteries under it’s twist off cap, the vibration is comparable to other vibrators of this ilk. Which is to say, the Doc Johnson Alumination vibrates at a lower intensity than some more powerful vibrators. If you’re a power junkie, this vibrator may not do it for you.
For me, the Doc Johnson Alumination Vibrator is a great alternative to my iVibe, also made by Doc Johnson, which can buzz me to numbness at times. I like the slow build up of the gentler vibrations the Alumination provides. Everything in its time, right? Well, sometimes I’m in the mood for something lighter on my clit and the Alumination Vibrater does the trick. It caresses me oh so gently.
The vibrations are focused in the tip of the Doc Johnson Alumination, though the aluminum causes them to travel quite well down the shaft, which is great when I have it inside me.
I can get easily distracted by noise, even when I’m wildly excited. The Alumination Vibrator is definitely a quiet vibrator, which is great! You cannot hear it through a door even a teency bit. So I don’t get distracted by the sound during play time. This also makes the Doc Johnson Aumination a good choice for travel and when overnight guests are present.
Due to its smaller girth and more moderate vibrations, the Doc Johnson Alumination is a great starter vibrator for some lucky girl. It’ll really help you work up to something bigger and stronger if you like.
The Doc Johnson Alumination Vibrator comes in pink, black, or gold. I like the pink, but embrace your inner diva and go gold if you like! All 3 colors are very attractive in the soft, shiny aluminum. I know it’s about what the vibrator can do, not the way it looks. However, when something works well and is pleasing to the eye and touch? All the better!
Doc Johnson Alumination Vibrator Pros:
• Mostly aluminum
• Waterproof
• Very quiet
Doc Johnson Alumination Vibrator Cons:
• Tip is plastic
• Width
The Doc Johnson Alumination Vibrator is a great addition to any collection. Beginners and experienced players alike will appreciate the benefits of an aluminum vibrator. The quietness of the Alumination and the low price point make it a winner in my book, and on my blog. I only wish it were made completely out of aluminum. Still, I’m a believer in having multiple toys, and the Doc Johnson Alumination Vibrator fits very comfortably in my sex toy chest.
